Streamlining the management of one of the largest secondary schools in the Czech Republic with the ATTIS system

At the beginning there was a reflection on how to make our school more efficient.

We have undergone mergers with several smaller schools with different focuses over the years. In addition to theoretical teaching, we also provide practical skills development for students in our own and partner facilities. After the merger, we are one of the largest secondary schools in the country. The management of the school faced the challenging task of unifying the management processes of the school as a whole and at the same time managing the specifics of practical teaching in a number of different workshops and establishments. Our aim was to increase the efficiency and transparency of the school’s operations, improve coordination between the different areas of teaching and enable
faster and more accurate management decision-making.

The second step was to find a way to put our thoughts into practice.

We approached Roman Fischer, co-author of the book “Management by Competencies”, to see if he could help us find a solution. As a first step, we put together an internal process team and trained them in management and process management. In the second step, we selected a suitable tool for mapping and managing key processes. Our choice fell on ATTIS, which allows linking processes to job descriptions and at the same time supports setting quality and performance indicators, reporting and evaluation.

Deploying ATTIS proved to be the right choice.

A process model of the school was created. Activities in the process were assigned to specific staff members. In this way, work responsibilities were clearly defined and rules of cooperation between departments and sections of the school were set. Measurable quality and performance indicators were set up in ATTIS to measure and evaluate the processes. Regular reporting of results has been introduced, in which all school managers participate. Coordination between different areas of teaching has improved significantly. We have achieved faster and more accurate management decision making based on reporting and evaluation, including staff self-evaluation. Transparency of staff activities has increased.

Our school’s plans for the future with the management system.

Thanks to these changes, the school is successfully coping with the ever-increasing demands on the various areas of the school’s activities. Sw ATTIS will be further used to integrate other elements of school management (management documentation, risk management, consultation management, advanced task management). At the same time, it will be used to prepare for the computerisation and automation of the school’s processes. RNDr. Jana Marková
